I Have a Dream 2018

I Have a Dream 2018

If social media is any indication, many of us spent Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday contemplating his words, searching for an escape from these Divided States of America in which we currently reside. I know you join me in the vision of a world not divided by the barriers of race, sex, religion, sexual preference or wealth. When regarding Martin's  "I Have a Dream" speech,  it is disconcerting to realize his words are perhaps more relevant today than they first were 55 years ago. 2017 was easily the most divisive year that I personally can...

My 60th Birthday Gift…to YOU.

My 60th Birthday Gift…to YOU.

January 2nd marked my 60th birthday. If landmark birthdays are the perfect time for reflection, then certainly, SIXTY gives cause to pause. I’m not buying that 60 is the new 40.  While I might actually see 80 years , 120 seems a bit of a stretch. So. Yep. It’s a fact.  I am now old. OLD. But you know what? SIXTY feels pretty damn good. I’m relatively healthy, albeit an extra 10 pounds carried around my middle.  My cholesterol and blood pressure are in check.   I still have my own teeth, knees and hips.  I wear glasses only for reading.  I wake only...

Two Simple Yet Powerful Life Affirming Words

Two Simple Yet Powerful Life Affirming Words

The postman brought me a powerful gift in the mail today that I simply must share with You! It says simply “You Matter” Several days ago, as I was searching the internet for Messages of Hope and Healing,  I came across the post of a young woman named Jessica, from Louisiana.   She showed a photo of this bumper sticker on her car. She was talking about suicide prevention and offering them to anyone who wanted them. What an incredible idea!  Of course I was interested! “I’ll take a dozen. How much are they?”, I asked. “They are free,”  she...

8 Ways to Ease Your Troubled Mind

. Lately I’ve been feeling like Dorothy Gale from Kansas: There is a tornado-like energy swirling about, fraught with disaster, impending doom and fear of WTF could happen next? I wouldn’t be surprised to look out my window and see Almira Gulch on her bicycle riding past. Adding our own distraught energy to the collective does nothing to help the world at large. In fact, it may be more important now than ever to stay in the eye of the storm.  But Easier Said Than Done, right? Here are a few simple practices that you may find helpful to stay...

“Dear old world”, she murmured, “you are very lovely , and I am glad to be alive in you.”                                               ~LM Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables                                                        In a world gone mad,  it is easy enough to fall into the abyss of hopelessness. And yet, when we can change the...

Voting with Your Dollars

Voting with Your Dollars

How do we create the world we know is possible? One simple act is choosing to spend your money in alignment with your values. Saturday afternoon I spent shopping with family at King of Prussia Mall in Pennsylvania in search of the perfect dress for my son’s college graduation. ( I must mention that I will be attending with my ex-husband and his new wife, so I am determined to look FABULOUS!) I should also mention that in the years BC (before children) I had a fulfilling career as a fashion buyer for major department stores across the US,  resulting...

Changing Our Focus to Love

Changing Our Focus to Love

We are living in an extraordinary time: an exciting, tumultuous, scary, topsy-turvy, WTF? kind of time. As newspaper headlines proclaim atrocities, our flatscreens scream divisiveness. Social media feeds brim with strangers lobbing hate-filled comments, crushing condemnation and vitriol at one another. Every system we have ever known seems to be deconstructing. These days are not for the faint of heart. FEAR has us in its gleeful grip.   And yet… When I allow myself to be present,  when I  close my eyes and breathe through the roller coaster of emotions,  I can imagine the limitless possibility of this moment.  ...

You are a SURVIVOR!

You are a SURVIVOR!

You are a SURVIVOR! You've been to your own private hell in the proverbial hand basket. Some catastrophic life event took you out, unexpectedly cut you off at the knees. Perhaps it was Divorce. Career Casualty. Financial Disaster. Death of a Parent. Worse: Loss of a child. Some painful, life altering event sent you into free fall. Down, down, down, you went and just when you thought it couldn't be worse, you hit bottom. Rock bottom. Hard. It rendered you breathless. Immobile. Maybe you didn't want to go on. And who could blame you? The energy to just brush your...
