Changing Our Focus to Love

We are living in an extraordinary time: an exciting, tumultuous, scary, topsy-turvy, WTF? kind of time.

As newspaper headlines proclaim atrocities, our flatscreens scream divisiveness.

Social media feeds brim with strangers lobbing hate-filled comments, crushing condemnation and vitriol at one another.

Every system we have ever known seems to be deconstructing.

These days are not for the faint of heart.

FEAR has us in its gleeful grip.

And yet…

When I allow myself to be present,  when I  close my eyes and breathe through the roller coaster of emotions,  I can imagine the limitless possibility of this moment.

Can you?

German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche observed “out of chaos comes order”.  And that thought provides me comfort.

Because here’s what I know to be true:

First: People are waking in unprecedented numbers. The transparency of our failing institutions has allowed a new foundation for activism and resistance to emerge: The idea that standing WITH one another has more strength than battling against.  Witness Veterans for Standing Rock, Muslims fundraising to repair a Jewish cemetery, or Bikers for Newtown.

Second: Humans are a generous, loving species.  Ordinary people everywhere are committed to helping one another.  In the US about 62.6 million people volunteered through or for an organization at least once between September 2014 and September 2015. And that’s in addition to committed career individuals who work in schools, hospitals, military,  and public service!

Third: What we focus on, expands. Such a simple truth! Each moment we are allowed to choose our thoughts and our words, it’s here we create our belief system. We can’t always control events in our human lives but we can control our reaction to those events.

And so the thought occurred: What would happen if we focused on Love instead of Fear?

You never change things by fighting the existing reality.

To change something,

build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.

~Buckminster Fuller

Let me introduce you to LyceumLIVE.com:

Our mission is to amplify the messages of hope and healing that are already happening in our world.

To allow the neighborhood Mother Teresa, the Gandhi in Peoria and the everyday Mandela-in-training a platform to be heard, seen and acknowledged.

To make Hope the LEAD rather than a filler for the last three minutes of the nightly news.

To put Healing stories, inspirational reads, triumphant transformations front and center, above the fold, rather than buried in Lifestyle.

The stories are bountiful.  And like silly cat videos, they deserve to be shared.

Borrowing Lyceum from Aristotle’s school of  philosophy in Ancient Greece, LyceumLIVE was founded in 2015 with the idea that people are wanting to have deeper conversations and discussions about the issues that matter.

We began as a speakers series with small group workshops throughout New England, reaching hundreds of people.

But when families began to be torn apart and lifelong friendships were lost to lack of civil discourse, it became evident that LyceumLIVE had to reach more people, FASTER.

LyceumLIVE has now evolved to an online community of Messengers and their Messages of Hope and Healing.

Our vision is a database where inquiring minds can come for inspiration;  a place where everyday people’s passions and purpose can encourage, influence and engage their audiences directly.

Combining the potent medicine of individual journey with personal writings and inspirational reads we have begun the work of redirecting the focus to LOVE.

By banding our love-based missions together collaboratively rather than competing with each other out of fear, we are committing to building a new model of being.

TOGETHER we can make this a truly extraordinary time.
